Wonder Woman 101 Sale--what to buy?
25th-Jun-2011 02:24 pm
I'm a life-long SF/F fan.  I love superhero movies and TV shows and fanfic, but have never actually read the comics.  I would like to start with Wonder Woman, and yay!  There is a "Wonder Woman 101" sale as we speak.  Alas, I don't have the disposable income to buy all of them, and I don't know enough about comics to know which ones are the best.  Of the WW comics on sale for $1, which ones are the most crucial for me to read, the best introduction to Wonder Woman?  My budget is like $10-$15, which means 10-15 comics.

I hope you guys can help!

Two links that might help: DCWomenKickingAss goes through the sale and picks the best, while Ragnell talks about the Golden Age stories. I bought all the Golden Age ones for only $10 and that was nearly 20 comics because the Sensations were bundled together.

Jinx, as I was about to like to Ragnell's Rec-Reading link, myself. heh.

Take my advice with the standard grain of salt, but you're best served with the Golden Age issues. Especially her earliest origin issues, as they are now available. Closest you'd get to Wonder Woman's true vision, along with a few early issues of Marston's run. (With the exception of Gerry Conway and maybe Gail Simone, in my opinion, no one else is as close to Marston's premise.)

Just my opinion.

I'm partial to the beginning of the second run when George Perez was doing it.
